University of Queensland

I was senior designer at the University of Queensland Union for three years. When I arrived in 2018, it was clear to me that we needed to reset our look with a more concise and contemporary identity. I began planning our re-brand, and launched the idea of an annual “visual reset“ at the beginning of the new semester in 2019.

As recent events have confirmed, it has never been more important for Universities to stay relevant, and appeal to a hugely diverse range of students. We needed the Union be seen as a one stop shop for any and every issue a student may have. We would tackle the most sensitive, delicate, personal problems for a student one day, then throw them a massive party the next, so creating an identity which seamlessly brought those polarising services together under one umbrella was our main challenge.

The solution is a vibrant, modern yet versatile concept - which can easily be re-juvenated as each new year of students take up their positions within the Union. Their relationship with the identity of the brand is imperative to it’s success, and we were keen to let our target audience have a say in how we bring the concept to life in order to represent their goals and ambitions for the academic year ahead. I believe what we produced will uphold that idea for years to come.
