I’m Karen.

I’m a senior designer originally from Scotland, who now calls Brisbane home. I’m very proud to be a permanent resident of beautiful, sunny Queensland.

There are but three keys to my heart - tropical sea coral, 70’s “dad rock” and an afternoon at the bowlo with friends.

I’m keen to put my design skills to good use and create positive change in the world. It’s important to me that I use my privilege to lift the voices of others - especially when it comes to communicating messages of important environmental and social issues. I’m super passionate about raising awareness of worsening climate change, social injustice, bio-diversity loss, gender inequality, Indigenous issues, women’s rights and social mobility, and would love to take on more work in these fields.

I’m a thoughtful and considered creative who is endlessly inspired and has the all-important natural eye for detail.

I‘ve more than ten years of proven, practical experience as a designer under my belt. Most of that time has been spent in-house, embedded into marketing and comms teams.
I’ve built identities via branding projects, sold ideas and concepts to internal and external stakeholders, developed processes and creative workflows, coached junior designers, managed projects end-to-end, become lightning fast in rolling out on-brand assets and gained a wealth of knowledge around tone of voice and consumer behaviour.

Experience has allowed me to become fluent in managing and producing design solutions for a diverse range of clients.

I’ve learned to take on projects or briefs with a strategic, considered and holistic approach, and have always relied on my natural creativity, eye for detail and organic talent for “making things look good“.

Most importantly though, I’m a confident and effective communicator who builds relationships effortlessly. I’m a genuine “people-person” who loves to get stuck in, and my natural optimism allows me to integrate quickly into a team and have a positive influence on others.
